'Thanks John, for Summer Sailstice!'

Summer Sailstice 2016 Video Competition winner, Evelyn Bauer, loves sailing and in 2004 was delighted to discover the annual, global sailing event after reading about it on a poster at a West Marine store. Since then, Evelyn and her husband Frank have hosted the annual celebration at their favorite sailing hangout, the Muncie Sailing Club, in Selma, Indiana.

'I remember clearly how I first found out about the Summer Sailstice event. In 2004 Frank and I were at the West Marine store in Indianapolis, Indiana. The poster was at the back of the store near the restroom. The event was past the date. As I read it I thought what a great idea.  I was upset for missing the first event. I vowed not to miss another found the web site and signed up for email alerts.'

'With the second annual event in 2005 we made sure Muncie Sailing Club was on board with a 'Sailing in Concert' event and open grill bring your own meat and a dish to share. We have had a great time promoting Summer Sailstice.com events yearly at Muncie Sailing Club.  A lot of our members who have joined Summer Sailstice have won prizes over the years. We love the great shirts, hats, and flying the burgee each year.'

Successive years saw Evelyn and Frank hosting the annual club event 'Call of the Conch', and this year's 'Funny Man Regatta which was a great success.

'We had more boats turn out this year than past years. We set up a race course and challenged sailors to time how long it took them to do the course and then try to beat their own time. A pitch in was held after. Everyone had a good time.'

The sailing Bauers began their sailing life aboard an O'Day day sailer on Lake Superior in the 1990s before moving on to an S27.3, which they trailered to Charleston, SC for a vacation. However they also caught the bug for small-boat racing.

'We can’t seem to stay away from the small boats and sailed a JY 15 for a while. We now have a Snipe racing boat. (great fun)'

Muncie Sailing Club is a privat not-for-profit community club situated in a park and by Prairie Creek Reservior which has 'perfect wind for sailing.'

'The club started out in 1961 with small boats only and an old farm house. Our members volunteer their help and we Put in and take out our own docks each spring and fall.'

'We have a club house, shelter house, slips for 60 boats, launching ramp, and a dry sail area with hoist. We have lovely grounds with a light house built by member, Fred Bedwell. Our members love sailing and try to promote sailing to young people with a group associated with Ball State University Muncie Indiana called OutdoorPursuits.com.'

'MuncieSailingClub.com loves Summer Sailstice.  A Special thanks to John Arndt for the creation of Summer Sailstice and its global growth.'
