Bermuda 1-2 Race

Newport, RI
United States

The Bermuda 1-2 Race (www.bermuda1-2.org) is a bi annual event that is the only offshore race on the the east coast of the United States that is sailed to and from Bermuda.  The race starts in Newport, R.I. and is sailed single handed to St. George, Bermuda.  After a short stay on Bermuda the second leg, one other crew joins the team and is sailed double handed back to Newport.

This is where I've invited my friend Lee Maynard to sail with me for his first offshore experience.  We talked about sailing offshore and I expressed that it is one of the most fulfilling, rewarding experiences in my life.  One that is really indescribable to anyone who hasn't experienced it for themselves.  Maynard, expressed the desire to sail with me and as one would understand, has mixed emotions and anxieties about something that you can't possibly know about until you've done it.  It's a draw that you can't deny and must find out for yourself.  I enjoy introducing people to sailing and tend to not only invite them along but to participate in the running of the boat from the moment they step onboard.  I can't wait for this years race to Bermuda and especially can't wait to sail with my friend Lee Maynard.
