Winter Solstice GoPro Winner!

We had some good entries for our Winter Solstice GoPro Prize contest and the winner is Dana from Seattle!

She shares her tale:

Dark and Stormy Sail

If you have ever been in the Pacific Northwest in December, you realize just how short the days can really become and you actually look forward to the Winter Solstice because it means that the days will only get longer. There had also been a string of storms over the last few weeks to be weathered, so we decided to usher out our dark days of December with an overnight sail and some Dark and Stormy revelry. If you can't be in Bermuda, you might as well have their national drink! (Gosling's rum is a partner at the Encinal Yacht Club event!)

Five sailors and two boats braved the cold and rainy morning on December 20th. The fog was so thick you couldn't see across the sound to Bainbridge Island, just 4.5 miles away so we kept a close eye on one another through the distorted sounds and sights of the pea soup. We toasted to the solstice the following day when we would sail back home - the shortest day of the year at 8 hours 26 minutes and one very long night of 15 hours 34 minutes.

Goodbye winter! We can just imagine our summer solstice around the corner with the most beautiful blue skies in the world, here in Seattle, Washington.

Well we here at Summer Sailstice are sure glad the days are getting longer and we are slowly but surely inching towards the Summer Sailstice when the days are long and the wind is up!   Have you made your Summer Sailstice plans yet?
