NV - Desert Sailors Are Almost Guaranteed Sunshine

The state of Nevada is probably best known for gambling, brothels and being really, really dry. None-the-less it is home to Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the US at 112 miles long and with 550 miles of shoreline. This makes for a great place to sail and has been home to a Summer Sailstice celebration for at least 5 years. For 2013 a fleet of dedicated Sailstice sailors made the most of another reliably sunny day of sailing in the desert!

Lake Mead Nevada sailors knew how to enjoy the day and raise money for a great foundation! The Lake Mead Sailing Club, Nevada Yacht Club, Fleet 51 Hobie fleet and Lake Mead Sail and Power Squadron combined forces to organize a fabulous 2013 Summer Sailstice celebration. The group celebrated with a raft-up, swimming and a sail back to the marina. They then listened to some great music, chowed on dinner, and held an old burgee contest.

Plus, they hosted a raffle with proceeds going to the Children’s Heart Foundation of Nevada! What a great way to give back and we're so glad they could join us in sailing on the Sailstice!
