Connecting the dots

Connecting the dots

Summer Sailstice is a unique global event celebrating sailing across the world from raceboats to cruiser to lakes and oceans. As our audience grows we wanted to let the new members of our community in behind the scenes to see what goes on during a week at Summer Sailstice.

This week we added some great return prizes from longtime sponsors like Samson rope who contributed a new set of docklines , Good Old Boat magazine subscriptions to be awarded to people who are resurrecting once idled boats , Harken who added some fantastic gear bags and a Stand Up Paddleboard from Beneteau!  We formed a new partnership with Datrex who are donating an inflatable radar reflector.  All of the companies donating prizes are filled with sailors who like growing a global sailing celebration and, of course, like the chance to expose their products to an incredibly diverse sailing community.  This is a win-win for everyone, the participants of Summer Sailstice, who sign up and are ALL automatically are entered to win one of the prizes, Summer Sailstice who is able to reward particpation and the prize donors who expose their products to a whole new market while particpating in a great event.  Plus, collectively, we all get to showcase who, how, what and where we sail to the non-sailing world.

New Prizes being added every week!

We are also awarding early prizes to folks who are signing up and entering their events and plans now.  This week we awarded a Nautic Ed sailing course to Marty B who sails a Hunter 22  and McLube Hullkote to Mr. Bill who has been sailing for 20 years on the Chesapeake as a thank you for registering!  You'll be in the weekly drawing when you sign up plus still be entered to win the Footloose charter and all the other items in the grand drawing after the event.

Also this week we connected with some event organizers like the Hampton Yacht Club who had a great article planning their Summer Sailstice getaway in their newsletter (p.7) with a couple of prize winners last year and already have 6 signups for their event this year.  We are also working on getting tall ships across the world to sign up and with their events and the Schooner Freda B and Schooner Bay Lady created events.  The boats in the Maine Windjammer Assosciation have donated notecards from their photo contest last year and are working on rallying the fleet to participate!  There are already countless other community organizers that are working on their Summer Sailstice plans!

It is a lot of fun to work with such a diverse array or products, people and boats that are a part of sailing culture from Alaska, Vermont, Maine, Sausalito, Israel.  We literally span the globe in a single week!  So that is a taste of how the dots connect from prizes to boats to individuals signing up across the world!  We look forward to sailing 'with you' too for Summer Sailstice 2014.
