Can we Enter our own Competition?

Entries for the 2017 Summer Sailstice contests are coming in fast, so we decided to get in on the action and create a Summer Sailstice video.

Friday is race night at Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA, so with a crew of seven enthusiastic sailors we headed out into the cold waters of San Francisco Bay aboard John Arndt's Ranger 33, Summer Sailstice. According to the day's weather reports we could expect up to 30 knots, so the decision was made to sail with a reef, and a good decision it was too. The afternoon was cool and certainly breezy.

We took almost six mintues of footage. More would have been nice, but between heeling, tacking and gybing, keeping a firm grip on the camera (smart phone) was sometimes challenging.

Editing was a brutal act with more than four minutes of sailing action falling to the virtual cutting room floor. Our music was sourced from Royalty Free music available on Youtube's Audio Library. This is a great resource, just remember to acknowledge the creator or owner, as and when required. Our music is called Beach Bum - Happy Rock and we're using it courtesy of Kevin MacLeod under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100347

The end result is not as good as a professional would achieve, and we know we can't win, but we still had a lot of fun sailing and editing our short production.

So here it is for your viewing pleasure (insert drum roll), the official Summer Sailstice 2017 Video...
