This is a sailboat race starting in Herring Bay (Chesapeake Bay western shore) next to Deale, Maryland and going around Government mark at Sharps Island lighthouse and returning to Herring Bay. The event is organized by the Herrington Harbor Sailing Association (HHSA) from both North and South Herrington Harbor Marinas. The race participants are sailboat captains and crew members on sailboats that are part of the HHSA racing and cruising fleets. The expectation is that over 15 sailboats from these 2 fleets will be participating in this event.
HHSA is a long standing organization which promotes sailing in the Chesapeake Bay area south of Annapolis and north of Solomons Island. The racing fleet has over 25 sailboats registered. There is a cruising branch of this organization which participates to feel what racing sailboats is all about with the hope that they will also join the racing branch of the organization in the future. HHSA meetings are held at Herrington Harbor South.
