Charlie Simon, a world circumnavigator, has an extensive technical and scientific background, along with teaching skills that really shine to make a presentation appropriate for all ages, sailors and non-sailors alike. A Microsoft alum, Charlie and his wife, Cathy, have just completed their round-the-world adventure spending 15 months visiting 5 continents, 16 countries, crossing 3 major oceans, and sailing 26,000 miles. "Celebrate", their sailboat, is a 58-ft Taswell sloop designed for offshore sailing.

On June 21st, 2015, Mr. Simon will be speaking on the science of sailing, covering topics such as:

  • What makes a sailing boat go?
  • Can a sailing boat go faster than the wind?
  • How do we manage energy and other resources on a long ocean passage?
  • Sailing around the world can be a very green ecological adventure and many of the lessons can be applied to everyday life ashore as well

Please join us at 4:45pm in the Nauticus Theater to hear Mr. Simon's exciting, engaging, and educational presentation!
