CARDBOARD BOAT BUILDING CONTEST AT SUMMER SAILSTICE
JUNE 24, AT THE ENCINAL YACHT CLUB IN ALAMEDA
Here is your chance to build a boat in one day and race her on the waters off the Encinal yacht Club. This event is open to friends, co-workers, families and anyone else who would like to see if they can build a boat and row or maybe even sail her around a mark and back to shore.
To design and build a human-powered boat made of corrugated cardboard capable of completing a short course off the Encinal Yacht Club docks in Alameda, California.
The Cardboard Boat Race is designed to be a fun and creative race. It does not matter how fast, slow, big, small, sensible or outrageous the boat is, the first rule is that designers, builders, racers and spectators have a good time.
BOAT CLASS CATEGORIES:
Class I: Build & Race
Teams are given up to 4 hours to construct a vessel using only cardboard, duct tape, felt tip markers, and a utility knife. Each team will be provided with therequired materials on the day of the race. Work can be done on-site between Noon- 4 PM
Class II: Build-at-Home
Teams who are interested in taking a more thoughtful approach to their design may construct their vessels at home prior to the day of the event.
*For both classes construction and design teams may be as large as necessary (cheerleaders and supporters are wildly encouraged), however, only one (1) to four (4) racers are permitted in the boats.

Crews can start building their boats at Noon for our 4:30 race start time. Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting wet. There will be life jackets available, but please if you have your own jacket bring it. This event is designed to be a fun event and spectacle. Be prepared to laugh, enjoy yourself and most likely get wet.
