We've got some great new Prizes lined up for Summer Sailstice participants!

Have you ever been on a 'Celestial Navigation' course? What's that you ask?  According to Wikipedia (everyone's' go to' guide), celestial navigation is also known as astronavigation and is "the ancient art and science of position fixing that enables a navigator to transition through a space without having to rely on estimated calculations, or dead reckoning, to know his or her position." Sound interesting? Navigator Publishing are offering a $100 voucher for the next course in Maryland, plus five digital subscriptions for their excellent magazine Ocean Navigator.

While we're on the subject of navigation, have you tried the My Boat app from Intelligent Maintenance LLC?  This fun and easy to use app covers everything you need to know about your boat - all in one place! The app was designed by the same team of sailors and powerboat specialists that created the popular ‘What’s on my Boat’ App for iPhone.  If you want to have a look, go to the app store and check it out!

Still speaking of my boat, I'd love to get hold of some the great Mount Gay® Rum gear donated by Pirate's Lair. (By the way, Pirate's Lair are the team who also make all the great Summer Sailstice shirts, burgees and hats.) If you're signed up to go sailing, or if you're about to, then you'll be in the draw for some Mount Gay® Rum tshirts and burgees, or a hip flask, or a bright red Mount Gay® Rum fleece pullover!!

Now it's all well and good for all of us to have a merry old time sailing around the world with our apps and our cool gear, but what about the ocean we travel on? How many times have you been at sea and had a pod of dolphins flank your boat, or a whale breach beside you? I haven't had either of those experiences yet, but I'd like to help make sure that I can and that those experiences can be enjoyed by future generations of sailors and their offspring. How do we do that?

Have you heard of Sailors for the Sea?  They are a non-profit organization that are working hard to protect our oceans by engaging, educating, inspiring and activating the sailing and boating community toward healing the ocean. This positive organization offers boaters tangible opportunities to create a legacy and make a difference. When you sign up for Summer Sailstice you not only put yourself in the draw for one of the cool reusable and environmentally friendly cutlery sets Sailors for the Sea are donating, you also have the opportunity to tick the check box and show your support for this great organization and their great cause!

But back to just cruising around having fun, Chesapeake Bay Magazine are donating 3 excellent 2015 Chesapeake cruising guides and 3 books on Sailing around the Maryland waters. The 2015 Guide to Cruising Chesapeake Bay helps you navigate every creek, river and bay and also includes walking tours of 35 of the most popular boating towns on the Chesapeake. Destination Chesapeake is the first compilation book of the best Maryland destination stories from the editors of Chesapeake Bay Magazine

So now that we've covered navigation, keeking track of your boat information, wearing the cool gear, looking after the oceans and sailing Chesapeake, here's one last thing to keep you comfortable out there - Helly Hansen have come on board and are donating some high quality sailing clothes. When you sign up to sail on the Sailstice weekend, June 20/21, you could win either a Helly Hanse jacket, bib or cap.   Did you know that this world class clothing range has its origins in the seas of Norway?

In 1877, Norwegian captain, "Helly Juell Hansen and his wife Maren Margarethe began producing oilskin jackets, trousers, sou'westers and tarpaulins, made from coarse linen soaked in linseed oil." Since then, Helly Hansen has been in the forefront of seaworthy clothing and outdoor wear, to become the world-class brand known today.

So that's it from me this week, hope you all have a great week, and remember to check back and see how things are developing here. Remember, only  5 weeks to go, so if you haven't yet, Sign up now for Summer Sailstice 2015!
