Neenah-Nodaway Yacht Club Celebrates in Wisconson

Dale Counihan, the Cruising Director of the Neenah-Nodaway Yacht Club in Wisconsin wrote in to describe a perfect Summer Sailstice weekend on the largest lake in Wisconsin:

Three sailboats from the Neenah-Nodaway Yacht Club with a total of 7 people onboard sailed Friday night in 10 – 12 knot winds from Neenah, on the northwest shore of Lake Winnebago, northeast to High Cliff, a distance of about 6 miles. After viewing a beautiful sunset, dinner was grilled and enjoyed by all at the High Cliff Marina deck. One boat with 4 people sailed back to Neenah in beautiful winds and a sky full of stars. The other two boats stayed overnight and returned Saturday, after watching the swimming portion of the 12th annual High Cliff Iron Man Competition. Over 800 athletes participated in the Iron Man event.

Idyllic summer weather for Summer Sailstice 2015 in Wisconsin.

Sunday was the day of the NNYC Summer Sailstice raft-up on the north shore of Lake Winnebago. Three sailboats with 6 people rafted up off the North shore of Lake Winnebago, off Waverly Beach Bar and listened to live music while enjoying a beautiful 75 degree Summer day , sharing snacks and beverages.

The overnight and raft-up events are part of the NNYC Cruise Program, a program which promotes the cruising and social aspects of the club on weekends. During the week, the club races keelboats, Flying Scots, and Lasers. Other events include Sunset Cruises during the full moon and overnight cruises to other harbors on Lake Winnebago. Lake Winnebago is the largest lake in Wisconsin and offers a variety of harbors from full-service to rustic.

NNYC events also include: the Best Friends Sail where Best Friend “Bigs” and “Littles” are introduced to sailing; an open house, which introduces the general public to sailing by providing sailing information and free sailboat rides; and floats in the Neenah-Menasha Memorial Day and July 3rd evening lighted parade.

The Neenah-Nodaway Yacht Club, established in 1864, is one of the oldest sailing yacht clubs in the U.S. It promotes economical sailing and racing. Gary Jobson was the keynote speaker at its 150th Anniversary last Fall.
