The Hampton Yacht Club encountered hail, 60 knots of wind, rain and other potential obstacles to a good time. Did that stop them? Not a chance. Sailing celebrations often require some patience, perserverance and optimism. And that's what makes it worth it. Read the tale:
Not rain, hail or 60 knots of wind could keep a group of HYC members from the Progressive Dinner on Jackson Creek. Since we had a smaller group, we all met for appetizers on Modus Vivendi, soup on South- erly, and then broke into three groups and went to one of three entree boats: Mystic, Tiki Rose, or Virginia Breeze. no one was with their significant other at this course. We then we ended at Dessert First (a guest boat) for dessert.
Hampton YC assembled all the necessary penants to ensure a good celebration.
Friday we sailed to Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club. Enjoyed the pool and met up with the Up the Bay Cruise as well as others who had cruised on their own to get to ICY&CC for Happy Hour and Din- ner. Everyone was concerned about the weather fore- cast for Saturday, many boats had already dropped out.
Saturday it was overcast, but never rained once we left ICY&CC. People started to gather at the beach around noon.
At 2 pm (island time), we started the boat building contest. Every team was given a small roll of duct tape, a piece of string and a plastic bag. Then they were sent out to scavenge the beach to get the rest of their supply to make a boat. Every team had their own technique and best design. Even though there were no PHRF ratings, the smallest boat won.
Despite hail, 60 knot gusts and other ominuous weather those that perservered were treated to their just rewards.
We met as a group at the beach for the drink contest. We had 10 entries for the drink contest, with many judges. Calypso took first, with Super Sailing Sailtice Screamer second and Mystic Mist third.
We then enjoyed the fire, limbo hook, and the sunset.
