Since the late 1990’s the Rockland Yacht Club has held an annual race on the Saturday closest to the longest day of the year. Aptly named the Solstice Race, this event is held around government marks in West Penobscot Bay. Racers can look forward to friendly, spirited competition, and a chance to knock the rust from sailing skills and reflexes dulled by our long Maine winters. Throw in a post race BBQ and pot luck at the Rockland Club house, with trophies awarded to main and jib sailors as well as two divisions of boats using spinnakers and you have a recipe for loads of fun. This is the reward for those who get their boats in early, and come out to mix it up!
