2016 Cardboard Boat Race June 18, 2016
To design and build a human-powered boat made of corrugated cardboard capable of completing
a short course off the Encinal Yacht Club docks in Alameda, California.
The Cardboard Boat Race is designed to be a fun and creative race. It does not matter how fast, slow, big, small, sensible or outrageous the boat is, the first rule is that designers, builders, racers and spectators have a good time.
Class I: Build & Race
Teams are given up to 4 hours to construct a vessel using only cardboard,
duct tape, felt tip markers, and a utility knife. Each team will be provided with the
required materials on the day of the race. Work can be done on-site between 10 AM- 2 PM
Class II: Build-at-Home
Teams who are interested in taking a more thoughtful approach to their design may construct their vessels at home prior to the day of the event.
*For both classes construction and design teams may be as large as necessary (cheerleaders and supporters are wildly encouraged), however, only one (1) to four (4) racers are permitted in the boats.
