With warmer winds, the last weekend of June will also bring Portland’s first annual SchoonerFest, a showcase of five large traditional schooners organized by local non-profit, Tall Ships Portland. These schooners will sail with participating passengers in their races and evening cruises from June 24th through the 27th.
As Portland’s sail training community grows, Tall Ships Portland is excited to bring an event as such to the public, where eager participants of all ages and all backgrounds are able to experience the sea from onboard one of five beautiful and historic vessels. No matter your familiarity with sailing, SchoonerFest is an opportunity for you to get as involved as you please, whether you want to try your hand at hauling in the mains’l, or wish to sit back and enjoy the beauty of Casco Bay over a bottle of wine with friends.
Portland SchoonerFest tickets are on sale at tallshipsportland.org and on site at the Maine Wharf and Maine State Pier during the weekend of the event. They run between $45 and $60 with all proceeds going to fund scholarships for weeklong sail training programs for high school students, organized by Tall Ships Portland Don’t miss your chance to buy tickets on your favorite schooner as berths are filling up quickly!
