"This is a great idea. We love to get folks out on their boats having fun in a non-competitive manner."

2006 Moorings Winner: Report from the BVI

Huge thanks go out to the Summer Sailstice Team and the folks at the Moorings.  Marilyn, the kids and I just got back from our Grand Prize Moorings charter in the British Virgin Islands and all agree that we've never had a better vacation.  My cousin, her husband and their three sons came along so that made nine of us on a 49 boat.  Our crew included one seven-year-old, two six-year-olds and two four-year-olds and I'm happy to report that all were old enough to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

We arrived late on Saturday night and slept on the boat at the Moorings base. They've upgraded their facility since we were last there seven years ago and time spent on their docks and in their restaurant and pool makes good use of every precious vacation moment. We were off the dock Sunday morning and for the next seven days had a blast visiting quiet anchorages, relaxing beach bars and hot-spots like the Baths and the Bitter End Yacht Club.  Wherever we went the kids had a great time as did their mothers and you know what they say? Happy wife, happy life!  None of us would have changed a thing.

The Moorings really have bareboating down to a science and have distilled what could be a complicated process into a simple thing.  From booking the charter and making provisioning list to the help they provided when we arrived and when we returned the boat to base they couldn't have been more helpful.  The BVI's are still as beautiful as they've always been and we were amazed at how clean the beaches and waters were in spite of the number of boats crisscrossing the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

Included are a few of many pictures of the Homeric crew.  My thanks to the entire Summer Sailstice team and the crew at the Moorings for what was certainly a vacation of a lifetime.
