San Francisco Bay, CA - Treasure Island Sailing Center Announces A Summer Sailstice Celebration Fund Raiser
Treasure Island Sailing Center, a community sailing center in the heart of San Francisco Bay, will hold a sailing celebration to raise fun and funds for sailors! The proceeds of the TISC Summer Sailstice celebration will support the numerous outreach sailing programs offered at the Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC), making sailing more accessible to people in the Bay Area. TISC offers Youth Sailing Classes and Camps to children from all backgrounds, offering full and partial scholarships to over 80% of its participants. TISC also has boats and classes for people with developmental and physical disabilities allowing them experiences and freedom like no other.
The 2006 TISC Summer Sailstice Celebration
For 2006 TISC has teamed up with Summer Sailstice to continue to broaden the event by inviting more members of the sailing and non-sailing public. We’ve created a weekend tradition of celebration all dedicated to sailing! So many people are lucky to live by the Bay, sail it’s waters and enjoy all that sailing brings to our lives. A Summer Sailstice event gives us an opportunity to gather sailors from all sailing traditions in a combined celebration. In addition to the TISC Regatta held last year we’re inviting several yacht clubs, class associations and individual boats to include a Summer Sailstice sail and cruise-in on the longest sailing weekend days of the year.
The Regatta
The racing will be held on three different venues close to TISC: Clipper Cove, Emeryville Flats, and Berkeley Circle. Each race course offers excellent conditions for the variety of boats and sailors who will be at the event. For short course racing and the young sailors, Clipper Cove offers excellent flat water conditions. The 2006 event includes a BAYS (Bay Area Youth Sailing) regatta hosted by TISC. For the older kids and larger dinghies, Emeryville flats offers moderate winds, current, and a light chop. For the keelboats, the Berkeley Circle offers strong winds, currents and waves. Each course will have expert Race Committees for a weekend packed of excellent racing for sailors of all ages and skill levels. Held over two days, June 17 & 18, 2006
Summer Sailstice Cruise
Yacht Clubs, class associations and individual boats are invited to join for a sail and cruise in our weekend dedication to sailing. There will be several courses and adventures laid out on the Bay for your sailing pleasure. Boats and classes will be invited to participate in a sail fitting their sailing style. Prizes will be awarded for various categories such as yacht club or class with the most boats participating, most people participating and most fun on the water. Clipper Cove is one of the Bay’s great cruising destinations so all boats are invited to join us for a Summer Sailstice sleepover and anchor for the night. Some slips are also available at the Treasure Island Marina and reciprocal privileges may be available with the Treasure Island Yacht Club.
The Saturday Night Social
After your Saturday sail – either cruising or racing - there will be a party at the TI Sailing Center with food, drinks, and a reggae band. There will be a raffle and a silent auction to raise funds for the Youth and Adaptive Outreach Sailing Programs. The event starts at 5:30pm with some light appetizers, with dinner at 6:30pm, the auction at 7:30pm and the raffle drawing at 8:30pm. The band will play from 7 to 10pm.
Cocktail/dinner/dance tickets are will be available for $45 and after dinner dance/auction tickets only available for $25.
The Treasure Island Sailing Center is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to improve our community and the sport of sailing by providing access, facilities, and sailing instruction to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, skill levels, and physical abilities.
