Summer Sailstice - Sail locally, celebrate globally

"This is a great idea. We love to get folks out on their boats having fun in a non-competitive manner."

Carter Lake “Bar-be-Cruisers” celebrate the Sailstice with
the Coast Guard

The Carter Lake Sailing Club of Berthoud, Colorado, is planning to celebrate the safest Sailstice on record, by inviting a cadre of new Coast Guard inductees to come sailing with club members.  That’s one way to guarantee that the BBQ grease fires don’t get out of control.  The plan is to meet at Carter Lake, just west of Loveland, on June 17th.  Cruisers will race, sail and raft up for an on-board barbecue.

This is the club’s first organized Summer Sailstice event, and members will be donning Sailstice t-shirts (bought through the website).  The idea came about because CLSC members Jeff and Linda Gruver have a daughter, Taylore, who was accepted into the Coast Guard last year.  She has had some profound experiences already, on sailing vessels around the globe, and her family's pride and enthusiasm for Taylore's new passion has radiated through the sailclub.
The Gruvers have invited the newest young Coast Guard inductees and their families to celebrate the Sailstice on Carter Lake by joining the Bar-be-Cruisers for a raft-up.  CLSC enthusiastically supported this friendly invitation in support and appreciation for the many services the Coast Guard provides.  Those services include training, overseeing boaters safety on the water, and guarding the nation’s shores.

Carter Lake Sailing Club is located at Carter Lake in Colorado, about an hour from Denver.  The Club's headquarters include a clubhouse with social room, kitchen, and covered deck., as well as a total of 50 slips on the lake.  The Club maintains a policy of open membership for any kind of sailboat.  Most of the maintenance on the docks and clubhouse is performed by the CLSC members to help keep operating costs and dues low.
