Summer Sailstice - Sail locally, celebrate globally

"This is a great idea. We love to get folks out on their boats having fun in a non-competitive manner."

San Carlos Yachts Combines Community Service with Fun, Fun, Fun to Celebrate Summer Sailstice 2006

On June 17th and 18th, San Carlos Yachts will be hosting their annual Summer Sailstice celebration.  Anyone in the neighborhood is invited to come on down to join the fun and help out with local community events.

On Saturday, June 17, from 10 am to 1 pm, you could really brighten the day of some great under-privileged kids from the Guaymas area.  Bring your sail or power boat to San Carlos yachts and give a ride to Mark Mulligan’s “Castaway Kids.”  Post-sail ice cream for the younger set will be provided at Barracuda Bob’s.

“Castaway Kids” is a program started by musician Mark Mulligan to help improve the lives and future prospects of children in his local area.  The program helps to build homes, playgrounds and other facilities for struggling families, and works to improve healthcare and educational prospects for the children.  To learn more about the Castaway Kids, check out http://castawaykidsmexico.com/#.

On Sunday, June 18, from 9 to 10:30 am, help out on the beach cleanup around Marina San Carlos and Catch 22 Beach.  If you meet at Barracuda Bob’s at 8:30 am, you can confirm your on-line registration, and get a free t-shirt and your ticket to the post-cleanup party (limited to the first 100 arrivals).  The post-cleanup party for volunteers will be held at Barracuda Bobs.  Free drinks, hot dogs, chips and ice cream!

To register, sign up at http://www.summersailstice.com//.  Look for the San Carlos Yachts event listed under America-Mexico-Celebrating Sailstice in San Carlos, Sonora.  Charlie Bloomer and Marisa Velasco opened San Carlos Yachts in 2003 after spending 2 years cruising full-time on their 40-ft O’Day sloop Pahinga. They decided to put their experience and love of sailing to work by helping other sailors find just the right boats for their sailing plans. They clearly love giving back to their community, as well, and welcome your support.

This celebration is co-hosted by the World Wildlife Fund, CEA (Conciencia y Educación Ambiental), Il Deserto, the local boating community, Froggy’s Bar & Restaurant, Ocean Camp, Marina San Carlos/Marina Seca, Mac & Carole Baade, Barracuda Bob’s, Jim & Leslie Michael, Siesta Realty, Star Marine Center, Hotel Posada del Desierto, and San Carlos Yachts.   For more info, contact San Carlos Yachts (www.sancarlosyachts.com).
