Recipe for Sailstice fun on Mark Twain Lake
The Mark Twain Lake Sail Association, will host a raftup and night sail out of Blackjack Marina near Perry, Missouri. Mark Stillwell of Dragonfly, who alerted us to the pleasures of Missouri sailing, says ”We usually have 8-12 boats in the raftup. Depending on the weather, we'll swim and relax in the sun. Several members will bring their guitars and sing local sailing songs. We invite http://www.BeneteauOwners.netusers to join us! As dusk arrives, it’s time to BBQ a nice dinner, share a bottle or two of wine and, if there is a nice breeze and clear skies, take a night sail.
We asked Mark what he recommends for the perfect Sailstice menu. He replied, “Most sailboats have a Magna gas oven/grill on the stern rail. A favorite meal is a teriyaki marinated pork loin with steamed vegetable. We combine diced red potatoes, baby carrots, fresh green beans and pearl onions in an aluminum foil bag. Add a little butter, teriyaki marinade, water, seal and steam it on the oven or grill with the lid on for 30 minutes. Slice the pork loin 1 inch thick and marinate it while the vegetables are steaming. Remove the vegetables and grill the pork - about 7 minutes per side with the lid on. Keep the vegetables sealed until they’re ready to serve. Serve with a good wine. A good merlot is the wine of choice, although a shiraz or chardonnay are often on hand.
“Of course no sailor would be caught without some rum onboard. Parrot Bay flavored rums - coconut, pineapple, mango - are the rums of choice. It's hard to beat the pineapple rum mixed with a Dole or Minute Maid juice (I like the orange, banana, strawberry blend) on a hot summer evening.”
And the musical accompaniment? “Good music comes from a variety of artists. You are sure to hear Jimmy Buffett and Eric Stone if you are near Dragonfly. You might even hear some Moody Blues, Alan Jackson or local artists. Mark invites you visit his website for pictures of Dragonfly and the Mark Twain Lake Sailing Association.
