Summer Sailstice in Poland...

Thanks to Sebastian Korwal of Long Island, NY, for emailing Summer Sailstice the following letter and sharing his on-the-water solstice experiences that he grew up with in his native Poland.

I was pleased to find that you actually do celebrate the summer solstice just as we East - Europeans do, in an event that I’m sure many people will love to take part in.

Coming from a Polish back-round, sailing comes second nature to me, as do any water-oriented sports, but what I’m writing for is to let you know about a few events that are to take place around the same time that your event takes place.

Three main events, the first being a sailboat demonstration within a parade, St. John’s Night (Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out), and of course our yearly morning Regatta in which we spend the night before completely on-boat.

To us these events are more like holidays than merely pre-arranged activities, and we take pride in doing them every year as tradition. We’ll be more than glad to take part in your summer sailstice this year, and hope to see you there.
