Summer Sailstice - Sail locally, celebrate globally

"This is a great idea. We love to get folks out on their boats having fun in a non-competitive manner."

Maine family sails for Summer Sailstice and Father's Day

Camden, Maine
Camden, Maine

One more fun thing about Summer Sailstice this year is the solstice and hence Summer Sailstice also falls on Father's Day. Like many people across the Northern Hemisphere Chris Campell of Camden ME found the solstice and Father's Day a great day to plan a sail with his father. Here's note on Chris' Father's Day/Summer Sailstice plans:

'We're actually planning to sail our new old boat from her current port of Camden, ME to her new port of Halifax, NS that weekend, and since it's also father's day, my crew will consist of my father, my best friend, and his father. Should be fun. Since we'll be passagemaking with a deadline we won't be participating in any get togethers - maybe next year...

It's a great idea to get people to focus on the solstice involving something they love like sailing - my only regret this year is that I won't be able to celebrate it with my partner - she's currently brewing our first child, and doesn't feel like a maiden voyage of 48 hours of straight sailing is what she's up for. We'll have to celebrate on the 21st. This will be only my second time sailing off the Maine coast, the first having been on my father's boat when we brought her home to New Brunswick from Toronto (Erie Canal, Hudson River, Long Island Sound, up the seaboard) - so the first time on my own boat. I'm looking forward to it for sure.'

Of course that sounds like a great adventure and a sail we'd like to be on also for Summer Sailstice.
