After you finish sailing, come view the bay and sunset from one of the most magnificent sites in the Bay, and enjoy learning a bit more about the sun, earth, moon connection.

The site offers a magnificent 360 degree view of the horizon, a tranquil respite from the stress of our urban existence, and an opportunity to renew the spirit. Workshop led by Tory Brady, Exploratorium Teacher Institute

We will observe the extremes of sunset and sunrise from solstice to solstice, and notice the elegant pattern, called the analemma, which the sun appears to make in the sky as we travel through the seasons. We will briefly discuss the tilt of the earth and its effect on the shape of the analemma and the seasons. Bring your thoughts and questions about the meaning of the Solstice. Update on Chavez Memorial Solar Calendar Project (www.solarcalendar.org).

Dress for all conditions. Weather is part of the experience.

DIRECTIONS:
 
Head to Berkeley Marina. Turn right toward the Doubletree Inn. Follow road to left as you pass The Doubletree. Go to end of road at circle. Chavez Park will be on your right. Park where you can. Follow signs ["Summer Solstice Gathering"] beginning at portable bathrooms to site (it is up on the mound at the northwest section of the park).
