While distributing posters around the San Francisco Bay waterfront we came across two businesses who had already dressed up their 'white boards' inviting folks out for Summer Sailstice. One was OCSC Sailing in Berkeley who's planning a major Summer Sailstice shindig to welcome in the summer sailing season. (How many times can you use a word beginning with the letter 's' in one Summer Sailstice sentence?). They'd dressed up their 'white board' to invite OCSC club members to come down to the club on Saturday June 19th where they'll have the classic square rigged tallship 'Hawaiian Chieftan' and the 65' catamaran 'Adventure Cat' on hand for evening sunset sails along with their bonfire and barbecue.
The other 'white board' we found was at West Marine in Berkeley where a 'Dry Marker Artist' had really gone to town with some terrific 'white board art'. Sun shining, boats sailing and date announced. Great to see so many folks joining in to create their own Summer Sailstice celebrations!
Both OCSC Sailing and West Marine are companies who jumped aboard and supported the concept of a Summer Sailstice sailing 'holiday' when they saw the potential for a fun event for their customers. Also, OCSC Sailing and West Marine have both helped support Seacology with Summer Sailstice. With the support of individuals and companies like these Summer Sailstice has been able to help Seacology continue it's mission of protecting island ecosystems and cultures.
OCSC also sent out the great post card shown here to all their friends and members inviting them to their Summer Sailstice afternoon sail and barbecue to be held Saturday, June 19th. If you're in the Bay Area and looking for a place to sail and celebrate you should get yourself by OCSC Sailing. Reservations are required for sailing time aboard the 'Hawaiian Chieftan' and the 'Adventure Cat'. If you have created some of your own local 'art' to invite your sailing friends to a Summer Sailstice party why not send it in and we'll add it to our 'art collection'.
