Sailors for the Sea NT3 Pledge

Take NT3 Pledge and learn more here.

When it comes to loving the ocean, it’s all about chemistry.

Every year, one third of our CO2 emissions are absorbed by the sea. As a result we’re changing the chemistry of the ocean.

It's called Ocean Acidification. It’s as if the pH in your blood changed, causing your bones to dissolve.

Deep in the ocean and along our coasts, sea creatures are struggling to form skeletons. The implications are immense, and like dominoes, as parts of the food chain disappear and coral reefs vanish, 20% of the world’s food supply will go with it.

All this is happening right now. Under the hull of your boat. And In the water where you and your family swim.

BUT YOU CAN CHANGE THAT. CO2 emissions that are harmful to the ocean come from producing plastic, toxic, petroleum-based chemicals and from burning fossil fuel.

Take a minute: take the Sailors for the Sea NT3 Pledge here.

Want to do more?  Contribute $$ for ever mile you sail on Summer Sailstice weekend:

Sailors for the Sea and Summer Sailstice have teamed up to create a unique, ocean-saving fundraiser. Together, we are mobilizing sailors to join a collective circumnavigation and raise funds for ocean health.

How does it work?
Sail 10 miles + Donate $1 or more per mile x 2,600 sailors across the globe = a great day on the water for all and $26,000 raised towards restoring ocean health!

To contribute to the virtual circumnavigation, pledge funds for every mile sailed on Summer Sailstice by entering your email below and receive a notice directly from Sailors for the Sea:

Summer Sailstice celebrates life under sail and, with that, the sailing environment that surrounds us.  Sailing's intimate connection to the enviroment creates a relationship of respect for the sea and it should go without saying we all have a role to play in sustaining it for future generations.  For this reason we encourage all participants to contribute funds for miles sailed on Summer Sailstice to Sailors for the Sea.  Any amount helps.  There are a lot of sailors out there which will make for a great global celebration of sailing and a great contribution to ocean conservation.

About Sailors for the Sea:

Marine life and vital coastal habitats are straining under the increasing pressure of global use. The ocean, which was once considered inexhaustible and resilient, is, in fact, finite and fragile.  Sailors for the Sea educates and engages the boating community in the worldwide protection of the oceans. The boating community has a profound passion for - and understanding of - the world's seas and Sailors for the Sea was founded to galvanize the sailing and boating community around ocean health issues.

David Rockefeller, Jr., an avid racing sailor and deeply committed to the environment, founded Sailors for the Sea as a direct result of his work on the Pew Oceans Commission that identified profound and alarming ocean health issues. The list of these issues is extensive and includes marine debris, overfishing, habitat alteration and degradation, non-point source pollution, invasive species and inconsistent ocean management policies.

Sailors for the Sea core programs include Clean Regattas, Ocean Watch Essays, Certified Sea Friendly, and Rainy Day Kits. Our nationwide Clean Regattas program assists and certifies yacht clubs and regatta organizers as providing clean events that minimize impacts upon our oceans. {Read More here}.
