What's Going On For Summer Sailstice 2014?

A survey of the Summer Sailstice Events page and the Plans page shows sailors, clubs, community sailing centers, races offshore and inshore all posted to showcase the best of sailing.  What is the best of sailing?  It's the sailing you enjoy most and have shared on the Summer Sailstice site.  One of the great challenges of demonstrating what sailing is all about is that it's all so different - racing across the Atlantic in the Clipper Race is very different from rafting up your West Wight Potter on Mission Bay.  But all these sailors have found a piece of sailing they like and wanted to share it and connect it with other sailors around the world.

On Chesapeake Bay the Hampton Yacht Club has assembled racers, cruisers and others for a weekend celebration.

Newport Bermuda Race: Leaving on Friday June 20th a fleet of about 165 boats left Newport Rhode Island headed for Bermuda.  You can follow the Bermuda Racers all weekend (when you're not sailing)with tracking provided by Pantaenius.  It's pretty cool.

On Mission Bay in San Diego, West Wight Potters are gathing for a Potter luck dinner, kick-back cruise and raft up.

San Francisco Bay, kiteboarders are tearing up the Bay in front of Chrissy Field.

In France, Loick Peyron will be sailing his 'new' rebuild Walter Greene Trimaran 'HAPPY'.

In England, over 1500 boats will be joining the fabulour JP Morgan Asset Management Round The Island Race.

In Kentucky the Cave Run Sailing Association will have a raft up and barbecue

In Boston, MA, Milwaukee, WI, Newport Beach, CA, Burlinton, VT and more community sailing centers will be hosting open houses to invite new folks down for a sail.

Is it the perfect day for a celebration of sailing?  Not everywhere.  In the Southern Hemisphere it's the shortest day of the year so registered sailors in Argentina and Australia won't have the daylight we'll have up North.  But they will be enjoying sailing which is what it's all about.

There's a bunch of events with Hobie Island Clubs - even in Bulgaria.  Understand that's not so impressive if you live and sail in Bulgaria but we live in and sail in San Francisco so it seems far away.  But great to be sailing 'with them'.
