Sailstice Plans, Comments, Inspiration and Memories,

One thing Summer Sailstice attempts is to do is to unite all sailors in a single event we can all do 'together'.  It's hard to do when some of us are sailing on kiteboards or foiling moths and others giving the 'heave-ho' on yardarms aboard a tallship.  Some crosing oceans others crossing ponds.  But all sailing and all having the time of their lives.  When reading through emails, comments on the website and individual sailing plans posted we can't help but wish we could actually join all these events.  And, thankfully, we get lots of enouragement.  Here's some recent comments received via email or spotted on the site:

'The local media are great to us. The free sailboat rides are great for our inner city residents who live in a city with a beautiful lake and no opportunity to get out on it. This event keeps getting bigger and bigger.  Thanks for letting us be a part of it!'  Toresson Marine, MI

'Thanks.  I wish I were on my boat!  I did forward your messages to friends in Monterey.  I have the pleasure of belonging to an extended family of sailors.  Early on, I sailed with the grandfather, who was about the best sailor out of that harbor and had a classic 19-foot wooden boat that sailed like a dream.  It took Monterey’s big winter swells in a  long glide.  The children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all sailed in it and went on to their own sailboats – the last named sail with competitive high school groups in small boats.  Like you, I think the future of our oceans resides with these folks.'  EL - Monterey, CA

'Keep up the good work!'  Of course we always love hearing that!

'A sunrise sail out to West Sister Island'  Catalina 34 on Lake Erie

'Measurement and Registration....maybe a little practice out on Narragansett Bay for Etchells World Championships in Newport, RI'  Top-end racing!

'Sail to a dinner locale with friends - then anchor out for the night...'  More relaxed sailing, Grand Lake, OH

'Plan to sleep aboard Friday night and sail all day Saturday offering rides to anyone interested in checking out the joy of sailing, then our club will have our annual "Glow Regatta" at sundown and I,m also offering a prize for "last place" to encourage participants to stay out on the water! Maybe raft up if weather is right.'  Barren River Lake, KY

'Friday night sleeping on my O'Day Mariner Julie B on the Hudson River. Sailing as long as possible on Saturday.'  Hudson River, NY

'Encouraging sailors to participate. I have to be out of town, but I am posting about the opportunities that sailors should take advantage of or participate in and giving them the link to this site and to Sailors for the Sea. Bummed to miss the sail, but know I will be there in spirit.'  The timing doesn't work for everyone but nice to have boosters.  Illinois.

'Heading out on SF Bay to bob like a cork on a Potter 15. Next time something much larger.'  West Wight Potter, San Francisco Bay

'2014 Dual Bridge Dual on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon, then BBQ @ Tomahawk Bay Marina. Too bad Jimmy Buffet's not here.....'  Oregon

'Sailing the slowest boat in the fleet....and loving every minute!' So says the Marshall catboat 'Jersey Girl' as they get ready for the Catboat Association 50th Anniversary Rendezvous in Mystic CT on June 21st!

'LaCrosse Sailing Club will be hosting an International Dinner with crepes and wine being served. The dinner will be followed by a Moonlight Sail. This all will happen unless the Mississippi River continues to rise, making it difficult to reach the sailboats at the Sailing Club.'  Lake Onalaska in LaCrosse WI

'An early morning sail out of North Point Marina on Lake Michigan (weather permitting). Just going where the winds take us.'  Winthrop Harbor, IL

'Sailing, and rafting up with the Watauga Lake Sailing Club for the third year running!'  Wautaga Lake Sailing Club, TN
