We're walking the docks at the Annapolis Boat Show and crossed paths with Jeff & Barb Steele of the Hunter 27 "Melanna'. We connected because Jeff was wearing his 'Peace, Love, Sailing' Summer Sailstice t-shirt and we couldn't help but say hello. Jeff and Barb have been dedicated Summer Sailstice particpants for several years as members of the Chesapeake based Hunter Sailing Association Station #1. HSA #1 had table near the Annapolis Hunter display and has organized several Sailstice Hunter cruise-outs on the Chesapeake along with the rest of they're busy sailing schedule.
This year 'Melanna' was 'on the hard' for repairs on Summer Sailstice weekend but, not wanting to miss the annual celebration, Jeff found an old Sunfish to take out for the annual Summer Sailstice sail. We like to hear it. It's the one weekend of the year where we hope all sailors feel compelled to hoist some cloth in the air regardless of the challenges. It's the right way to start your summer and, of course, the best way to continue it.
There are plenty of old Sunfish out there for anyone to sail so find one and get out there. We hope for Summer Sailstice 2016 on June 18/19 'Melanna' will be back in action and ready for another celebration with HSA#1.
