ME - Touching the Sun for Summer Sailstice

Another unique form of sailing celebration came in from the sailing vessel ‘Mostly Love’ in Maine:

‘We started our solstice by trying to touch the sun.....had to run a messenger down the mast to rig a new haylard as well as replace the anchor bulb with an LED. After that and coffee we enjoyed a brisk day on the gulf of Maine.’

‘Thank you for what you do.’

Well thank you too and great to have anyone down on their boat for Summer Sailstice – actually sailing or getting it ready for the season. New England has had a particularly tough (i.e. wet) year for getting the sailing season underway but it’s finally looking good.

A few years ago we had one sailor come close to ‘touching the sun’ for Summer Sailstice by sailing the world’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca, at over 12,000 feet above sea level.
