Marinas Celebrate the Sailors in Their Slips

The National Marina organization which, for many years, has worked with marinas nationwide to promote marinas and the access they provide to the water is now also incorporating Summer Sailstice into their summer event plans.  It's an opportunity for marinas to highlight the sailors in their slips, another reason to bring people down to the water and to demonstrate the sailing side of boating.  Great to have marinas promoting both waterfront access, invite new people to try boating and to promote sailing through Summer Sailstice.

On Summe Sailstice an empty marina means sailors are sailing - just as it should be.

It all starts with a 'Celebration for the Sailors in Your Slips National Marina Day, June 14th' immediately followed By Summer Sailstice, June 21st making it a two weekend affair.  Sailors can start early by heading down to their marina to celebrate on June 14 and continue the next weekend by celebrating sailing with a shove off the dock and hoisting their sails!

It gives everyone one more reason to hit the water and showcase what waterfront life has to offer.  Marinas can now can hold two events in June, designed to get beginners out on the water and encourage old salts to set sail. National Marina Day, June 14th is designed as a chance for marinas to introduce the public to boating through on-water and landside activities at marina locations across the US. It is a celebration of boating and the role marinas play as gateways to the water. www.nationalmarinaday.org

Once National Marina Day is over, how do you continue the momentum of encouraging newcomers and existing tenants to set sail? Promote Summer Sailstice!

Summer Sailstice, June 21st, was created as a holiday just for sailors to be celebrated wherever you sail in the Northern Hemisphere. Sailors simply need to sign up at www.summersailstice.com and then go sailing.

The role for the marina is to let your customers (and the local media) know that you are supporting Summer Sailstice through these easy steps: - put the date on your marina Calendar - create a marina posting on the event website: http://www.summersailstice.com/ - adapt copy from this page: http://www.summersailstice.com/event-tools-yacht-clubs to send a press release to your local media.

When marinas support participation in both National Marina Day and Summer Sailstice they encourage boat usage and retention of first-time boaters and long-term tenants by having them join together in a common celebration of boating. People become sailors for the fun, relaxation and adventure. However, they stay sailors because of the friends and community they build.
