Faith in the Future

Faith in the Future

Polar vortexes, deep snow, frozen lakes, frigid forecasts but still there is faith in the sailing future.  Right now it's March 4th and 10 degrees in Burlington, Vermont home to the Community Sailing Center on the shores of the currently solid Lake Champlain but, like all Northern sailors, they have faith knowing spring will come, the water will warm, the breeze will be up and sailing on the largest lake in New England will return. Today they sent out their annual announcemenment to sign up for summer sailing classes: '104 Day Days To Go!'  Of course, after teaching sailing to countless kids and adults for over 20 years, the Community Sailing Center on Lake Champlain knows there is a idyllic summer of sailing coming soon.

Sailing on Lake Champlain isn't the first thing on everyone's mind on March 4th but it is for the Community Sailing Lake Champlain.

It's June, Summer Sailstice and no sign of a polar vortex!

Lake Champlain is the largest New England lake at 125 miles long and 14 miles wide at the widest point. The long, narrow body of water is a slice between the Adirondack Mountains in the West and the Green Mountains (montagnes vertes) in the East.  It's 400 feet deep at its deepest point.  It's also home to some fabulous summer sailing and a Summer Sailstice celebration weekend right after their opening summer sessions June 16-20.  Lake Champlain is also home to a prior Summer Sailstice BVI charter winner, Jerry Mannock, who won while sailing his Colgate 26 on Lake Champlain in 2005.

Vermont is well-known for skiing, hockey, maple syrup and pastoral countryside but, in addition, it has fantastic, scenic sailing with great community access provided by the Community Sailing Center.  If there's a chance you'll be in Vermont on June 21st, think about heading over to the Community Sailing Center and participating in their Summer Sailstice celebration. You can RSVP right here!

What could be better in the summer than a sail on Lake Champlain?

Brisk breezes, scenic surroundings.

It all looks good for sailing in the summer.

You just have to wait until the ice moves out - Mallets Bay on March 4th 2014.
