Boat US Midweek Celebration - Great Idea!

Boat US Midweek Celebration - Great Idea!

With a half million members BoatUS is the largest boat owners association in the US.  Yet, like many people who find themselves in the boat business, they often find they just don't do enough boating.  BoatUS came aboard Summer Sailstice as a sponsor this year and, along with that,  president, Margaret Bonds Podlich, became inspired to get her team on the water to celebrate the arrival of the summer sailing season.  Margaret just wrote to say,

'I wanted to share with you that your idea of Summer Sailstice helped push me into having a staff celebration at our local marina next Thursday night (weather permitting).  We have land activities – knots, chart orientation, casting for fishing, learning parts of a boat, and a picnic, as well as staff bringing their powerboats to give rides, kayaks to go into the marsh, our local TowBoatUS to tour, and Flying Scots rented from the marina.  We have 150 people signed up, including about 40 kids.  It’s really cool that so many of our folks want to come play at the waters edge and on the water.  Thank you for the inspiration!'

The days are long making this the perfect time of year for an evening celebration which we hope will carry on right through the weekend.  Great to know BoatUS is planning to walk the walk, talk the talk and sail the sail - or something like that.  Someday Summer Sailstice might just be a holiday celebration where we all get some time off to sail!

We received that note from Margaret just before reading about the retirement of BoatUS chairman and founder Richard Schwartz  who announced his retirement from a 47-year run as the leader of the half-million-member boating association.  Margaret and team will be taking up the reins.  Click here for the complete story.
